ReportPack™

Today's users require reporting capabilities which were not even available a few years ago. Now,

  • Users demand user-controlled analytical capabilities.
  • Users demand portability. Reports should be mailable, annotatable, and generally manipulable for computing further reports
  • Older packages like Crystal have accumulated a large corpus of legacy reports, and have evolved power users. Thus users often demand support for traditional packages to protect their investment in report writing.(This requires, of course, a strong mechanism for setting up 'alias' data structures and data elements.)
  • End-users demand usability. This means that that so-called 'ad hoc' reporting tools -- if they have long learning curves --- are rejected or handed off to junior IT staff, even for routine reporting tasks.

To address such demands, Dataleaf has evolved 'ReportPacks'. ReportPacks are distributable, executable 'reports,' each of which can generate a wide variety of secondary reports.

implementation

In a typical recent implementation, one ReportPack was available for 54 different security subsets, each containing over 100 pre designed reports definable over any selection of rows ... yet a typical file size was 10MB for these portable, self-contained components.

Since these report-generating modules were pre filtered to contain information only for the recipient's direct reports, they could be distributed rather widely -- on password protected media -- without a severe security impact.

The secondary reports generated by ReportPack modules are unusually flexible. They are, at the user's option, portable, editable documents in standard formats like Word,Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

ReportPack™ modules...

  • emit frequency tables, cross frequencies, and summary statistics instantly, based on any desired selection group, all with one or two mouse clicks
  • support legacy reports using appropriate aliases and automatically re coded values
  • emit a wide variety of predefined pivot tables, graphics, and spreadsheets to MS Excel, thus providing a 'cube' functionality with no learning curve for spreadsheet power users.
